blurred versions of boys, boyhood and birthdays.

Bomber H.happy birthday to this guy. sixteen he is, sixteen, oh no, it can’t be. has it been that long? i think he was seven in this picture, maybe six, but definitely not eight yet. doesn’t matter. i’m old, these boys are getting old, boyhood has escaped all of us involved. what happened to youth…mine anyway?

so yes, what a boy this boy has become. a young man indeed. so proud of what he does daily, the discipline, the insight to life, the empathy. i’m biased but he is one helluva kid. seriously, he has his own way of carrying himself that denotes a maturity that i’m not even sure i have. so, yeah, proud. pop.

so happy birthday, my boy #2. i hope i am around for about fifty more of these. my love to you always.

we all wear different hats.

hats.

mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, lovers, fighters, friends, enemies, walkers, runners, talkers, sinners…there’s all those hats and more.

all the world’s a stage,…

the stage

“on stage I’m just me having a bad day.” –Nick Cave

goddamn, this is real.

Alley way.

this isn’t some kind of metaphor,
goddamn, this is real.

leave the planet…

No jobs...

so yeah, been on a listening tirade involving the Galaxie 500 catalog. i always loved them in that “wow, they sound like the Velvets” sort of way. i really discounted how much more they were…i’ve had this one on repeat a few times this morning…

You said, it’s time to get your clothes on
You said, it’s time to leave the planet
You said, don’t even bring your wallet
You said, it’s time to leave the planet
You said that I could bring my guitar
You said, it’s time to leave the planet
You said that I could bring my guitar
You said, it’s time to leave the planet

always with the coming soon. (anticipointment)

Liquor (coming soon)

saying nothing and everything and then nothing and then i click the shutter on a cheap, plastic picture maker and wait a year.

I saw what you did there.

I saw.

Hey, history for today…
Gervinus of Germany is often credited with inventing the circular saw in 1780.
Austin, Travis County, and Williamson County, Texas have been the site of human habitation since at least 9200 BC.
Rust Never Sleeps is an album by Neil Young and the band Crazy Horse. It was released on July 2, 1979. Most of the album was recorded live, then overdubbed in the studio. It’s #350 in the Top 500 albums of all time. It’s #4 on my most ever listened to albums behind Kiss Alive (KISS) and Let it Be (The Replacements) and Back in Black (AC/DC).

it’s not always where you are going, it’s how you get there.

hardly flat.
cliche’, sure, it’s the journey, not the destination, etc. and so on. but it’s true. as i continue to age (for some damned reason) i am more and more aware of this old, tired fact. now to just slow down and live a little more of my life with this recognition at the top of my mind.

roller coaster of life.

roller.

metaphorically speaking.

melancholy and where you are.

melancholy austin

Melancholy in a capitalist, like the appearance of a comet, presages some misfortune to the world.
–Alexandre Dumas

Not to say I am anti-capitalism, or melancholic but I do suffer both those traits on occasion. It’s a pity travel is for the rich in the century where we can do so many other things with relative ease and sometimes on the cheap. upon hearing of Pete Seeger’s passing, (american activist, agitator, singer of folk songs, songs for folks who work and those who hate war) i was reminded of the fact he dropped out of Harvard in 1938 to ride a bicycle across america. people used to do remarkable things for the sake of being free. now we do remarkable things to line our pockets and be on TV.
